Monday 31st March 08 - The new committee was formed last night at the AGM, details have been updated in the Committee link. More details will follow about them and the new programme will follow after some initial meetings. Watch this space! Welcome to the website of Edinburgh Scout Network Whether you have been trying to find us online, or have accidently ended up here at our website, we are sure you might have a few questions. So let us try and answer them… What is Scout Network? Scout Network is the fifth and final section of the Scout Association and is for young people aged 18 to 25 years old. Network is all over the place, and not just in Edinburgh. So, what about Edinburgh Network? Edinburgh Network is made up of a good mix of people – you could almost call us cosmopolitan! We have members who have moved up from Explorer Scouts and some who have never been in Scouting before. Some have grown up in Edinburgh, whilst others have moved here to study or work. Our Network is ‘run by our members for our members.’ That means that we get to decide what sort of things we do. There is a small committee of members who are there to make sure things happen. What sort of activities do we do? That is a big question! As we are the oldest of the sections, we have the opportunity to try out some great adventurous activities. Our members have tried scuba-diving, been hillwalking, been rockclimbing and gained awards in canoeing and kayaking. Scouting truly is international too. So some of our members have walked across Denmark, been camping in South Africa and more recently helped build and run the World Scout Jamboree (that’s a camp for 40,000 people from all but 6 countries in the world!) Some of our members are gearing up for travelling to Russia, Mongolia and China in 2009, whilst others are looking to go on an expedition in Tunisia. Closer to home we meet fortnightly for activities and any training we need in Edinburgh and sometimes further afield. Our members have the opportunity to take part in the awards scheme, and work on their Explorer Belt, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, the Chief Scout’s Diamond Award and the Queen’s Scout Award. (To find out more about those, look at the Awards Section ). We also believe in giving something back to the community and also in Scouting, so we occasionally undertake service projects which can be wide and varied. Some of our members are also Scout Leaders with younger sections such as Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. One of the best bits of Scout Network are the weekend camps. We hold our own Edinburgh Network weekends and also attend other camps across the length and breadth of the country. You’ll no doubt see some pictures from these camps in our Photo Album . And how do you join us? Go to the Join Us page and download a membership form. Fill it in and send it in. Meanwhile, you could look for our group called ‘Edinburgh Network’ on Facebook and join that if you want to see what is coming up. |
